We seek to partner and collaborate with UCDD-UCHRA, H.O.M.E., Families in Crisis, Family Resource Center, City and County Governments, Churches and Private Citizens.
Opening Statement to the Homeless Summit on October 15, 2026 by Founder and Director of MATCH, Brad Durham
I want to thank everyone for being here. There are two main reasons I created this Homeless Summit and started the McMinnville Action To Create Housing, MATCH.
First, we want to present a cost-effective, evidence-based solution to homelessness. I believe there is a gap in the services provided to our homeless neighbors in McMinnville.
The second reason is to advocate for our community to work together in providing permanent supportive housing for people who are unhoused. Nothing will change without the public and political will to drive this change.
We are not simply presenting a problem; we are presenting a strategic plan to solve it. This plan will not create significant results without collaboration from the community and our government—city, county, regional, state, and federal government. Homelessness cannot be resolved without the political will to provide funding for rental assistance and supportive services.
We propose to jumpstart the plan with private funding through fundraising, but this approach is not sustainable for a long-term, permanent solution. MATCH will advocate for the homeless and strive to increase the political will to end homelessness in McMinnville for as many people as possible.
Tonight, we will share local stories of homelessness ending for two individuals and a family. We will highlight the savings associated with housing compared to the costs of homelessness. You will also see a TED Talk from Sam Tsemberis, who developed the most widely accepted solution to homelessness in America.
